Global Markets

(A) Precious Metals

Gold: $4,030.12/oz (-0.74%)

Gold declined 0.74% to $4,030.12/oz as rising oil prices, inflation concerns and a firm U.S. dollar pressured bullion ahead of the October 28 Federal Reserve decision.

Higher energy costs reinforced expectations of interest rates remaining elevated, with markets pricing in approximately an 84% probability of a December rate hike. Analyst Soni Kumari highlighted that energy-driven inflation and restrictive monetary policy remain key short-term headwinds for gold.

Silver: $53.86/oz (-1.03%)

Silver fell 1.03% to $53.86/oz as dollar strength, elevated Treasury yields and expectations of further Federal Reserve tightening weakened precious-metal demand.

Rising oil prices intensified inflation concerns, while industrial-demand uncertainty and cautious investor positioning added pressure. Market analyst Jim Wyckoff previously highlighted that persistent inflation, restrictive monetary policy and liquidation pressures were weighing on gold and silver.

(B) Energy

Brent Crude: $111.08/bbl (+1.55%)

Brent advanced 1.55% to $111.08/bbl as renewed Middle East supply concerns followed a reported missile attack on Saudi Arabia's Ras Tanura refinery, which has a capacity of 550,000 barrels per day.

The Houthi group claimed responsibility, although Saudi authorities had not confirmed the attack at the time of reporting. A reported 2.03-million-barrel decline in U.S. crude inventories added support. Energy strategists at ING suggested that avoiding further escalation involving Iran could gradually reduce oil's geopolitical risk premium.

(C) FX

DXY: 102.40 (+0.08%)

The U.S. Dollar Index gained 0.08% to 102.40, supported by elevated Treasury yields and expectations of restrictive Federal Reserve policy.

Markets priced a 91% probability of unchanged rates, while strategist Chris Weston highlighted December rate-hike expectations as a key driver of dollar movements.

USD/JPY: 157.81 (-0.10%)

USD/JPY declined 0.10% to 157.81 as yen demand and cautious positioning ahead of the Fed decision offset support from elevated U.S. Treasury yields.

Uncertainty surrounding future U.S. interest rates kept the pair volatile.

EUR/USD: 1.1129 (0.00%)

EUR/USD remained unchanged at 1.1129 as dollar strength and Federal Reserve uncertainty limited euro gains.

Investors remained cautious ahead of central bank decisions, with elevated U.S. yields supporting the dollar.

GBP/USD: 1.3307

GBP/USD held steady at 1.3307 (0.00%) as U.S. dollar resilience and uncertainty over UK fiscal policy kept sterling under pressure.

Investors awaited the UK budget announcement and Federal Reserve guidance for further direction.

AUD/USD: 0.7047 (+0.30%)

AUD/USD advanced 0.30% to 0.7047 after Australian quarterly inflation accelerated to 1.3% from 0.6%, strengthening expectations of further Reserve Bank of Australia tightening.

Governor Michele Bullock indicated policymakers would reassess whether previous rate increases were sufficient to control inflation.

Australia's stronger inflation data reinforced tightening expectations, while New Zealand's unexpected rate hold highlighted policy uncertainty. Canada's upcoming decision could further influence currencies and bond yields.

2. Middle East Tensions, Saudi Supply Risks & Oil Prices

Brent rebounded above $115/bbl following reports of an attack on Saudi Arabia's Ras Tanura refinery. Despite diplomatic efforts, renewed Houthi activity, shipping disruptions and potential supply constraints continue to pose upside risks to energy prices and global inflation.

3. AI Earnings, Dollar Vulnerability & Equity Valuations
