Global Markets

(A) Precious Metals

Gold: $4,131.96/oz (-0.77%)

Gold fell 0.77%, pressured by a firmer U.S. dollar, elevated Treasury yields near 5.31% and uncertainty ahead of the FOMC meeting minutes. However, October Fed hike expectations easing to around 20.5%, from 51% a week earlier, and geopolitical tensions helped limit losses.

Silver: $60.63/oz (-1.19%)

Silver declined 1.19%, weighed down by dollar strength, elevated Treasury yields and uncertainty over Fed tightening. Concerns over industrial demand added pressure, while softer U.S. jobs data, lower October hike expectations and geopolitical risks provided some support.

(B) Energy

Brent Crude: $101.45/bbl (+0.86%)

Brent rose 0.86%, supported by a developing Gulf of Mexico storm, renewed Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and a reported 2.09-million-barrel drop in U.S. crude inventories. However, recovering Middle East exports and easing supply disruptions capped gains, despite the EIA raising its fourth-quarter Brent forecast to $105/bbl.

(C) FX

DXY: 102.07 (+0.16%)

The dollar rose 0.16% to 102.07, supported by elevated Treasury yields and uncertainty ahead of the FOMC minutes, while softer U.S. data and reduced Fed hike expectations limited gains.

USD/JPY: 158.39 (+0.19%)

USD/JPY rose 0.19% to 158.39, driven by wide interest-rate differentials and elevated U.S. yields, while BOJ tightening expectations limited further yen weakness.

EUR/USD: 1.1230 (-0.25%)

EUR/USD fell 0.25% to 1.1230, pressured by dollar strength and fiscal concerns in France and Spain, although proposed French spending cuts provided some support.

GBP/USD: 1.3244 (-0.21%)

GBP/USD declined 0.21% to 1.3244, weighed down by dollar strength, elevated bond yields and Fed policy uncertainty, while softer U.S. economic data limited losses.

What Markets Are Watching

1. FOMC Minutes & Fed Rate Outlook

Markets await the FOMC minutes for clearer guidance on future tightening, as October rate-hike expectations eased to around 20.5%, from approximately 51% a week earlier. However, persistent inflation concerns continue to support expectations of further tightening later this year.

2. U.S. Treasury Yields & European Fiscal Concerns

The U.S. 10-year yield remained near 5.31%, approaching recent 24-year highs amid debt concerns and upcoming Treasury auctions. France's bond spread over Germany narrowed to around 132 basis points, although broader European fiscal risks continued to pressure sentiment.

3. Middle East Supply Risks & Oil Outlook

Brent traded above $101/bbl as Saudi-Houthi tensions and a developing U.S. Gulf storm threatened energy supplies. Meanwhile, the EIA raised its fourth-quarter Brent forecast to $105/bbl, citing tighter inventories and ongoing Iran-related supply disruptions.
