Global Markets

(A) Precious Metals

Gold: $4,151.77/oz (+0.27%)

Gold rose 0.27%, supported by weak U.S. payroll growth of 29K versus 90K expected, reducing October Fed hike expectations to 18%. However, a stronger dollar limited gains.

Silver: $61.47/oz (+1.80%)

Silver gained 1.80%, supported by weaker U.S. jobs data, easing Treasury yields and reduced Fed tightening expectations. However, dollar strength capped further gains.

(B) Energy

Brent Crude: $101.25/bbl (-0.98%)

Brent fell 0.98%, pressured by rising Middle East exports, a planned 100-million-barrel G7 reserve release and Saudi Arabia's $3/bbl price cut for Asian buyers. However, regional tensions limited losses.

(C) FX

DXY: 102.37 (+0.47%)

The dollar rose 0.47%, supported by safe-haven demand, French fiscal concerns and elevated U.S. Treasury yields near 5.26%. Weak U.S. jobs data reduced October Fed hike expectations, but European bond-market stress supported the dollar.

USD/JPY: 157.92

USD/JPY remained elevated as wide U.S.-Japan yield differentials and dollar demand weighed on the yen. However, BOJ tightening expectations and Japanese bond-market pressure limited further dollar strength.

EUR/USD: 1.1176 (-0.68%)

EUR/USD fell 0.68%, hitting a 17-month low of 1.1161, pressured by France's debt concerns, political uncertainty and rising borrowing costs. Analysts warned that fiscal stress could spread across the eurozone.

GBP/USD: 1.3205 (-0.25%)

GBP/USD declined 0.25%, pressured by broad dollar strength, elevated Treasury yields and global bond-market uncertainty. However, sterling remained comparatively resilient against the weaker euro.

What Markets Are Watching

1. U.S. Services PMI & Fed Outlook

Markets await the ISM Services PMI, forecast at 55.1 versus 55.4 previously, for signs of economic momentum. Following weak September payroll growth of just 29K versus 90K expected, the October Fed hike probability has fallen to around 18%, shifting attention toward a possible policy pause.

2. French Fiscal Concerns & Global Bond Yields

France's widening fiscal concerns pushed the 10-year bond spread over Germany above 150 basis points, while the U.S. 10-year yield remained near 5.27%. Debt sustainability, government borrowing and elevated energy costs continue to pressure global bonds and the euro.

3. Middle East Supply & Oil Prices

Brent remains above $100/bbl, as rising Middle East exports, G7 reserve releases and Saudi Arabia's unexpected $3/bbl price reduction for Asian buyers ease supply pressure. However, Houthi attacks and Gulf infrastructure risks keep oil markets sensitive to geopolitical developments.
