Global Markets

(A) Precious Metals

Gold: $4,469.06/oz (-0.10%)

Gold slipped 0.10% to $4,469.06/oz as profit-taking followed the previous session’s strong rally and investors stayed cautious ahead of U.S. payrolls data. Lower Treasury yields and reduced expectations for an immediate Fed rate hike limited losses. Fed Governor Christopher Waller indicated support for keeping rates unchanged if inflation continues to ease.

Silver: $66.66/oz (-0.45%)

Silver fell 0.45% to $66.66/oz as profit-taking and uncertainty ahead of key U.S. employment data pressured precious metals. A softer dollar and lower bond yields provided some support, while markets awaited fresh signals on the Fed’s rate outlook.

(B) Energy

Brent Crude: $91.55/bbl (-0.87%)

Brent crude declined 0.87% to $91.55/bbl as profit-taking, improving supply expectations and hopes of progress toward a Russia-Ukraine settlement weighed on prices. However, continued U.S.-Iran tensions and risks to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz limited the downside.

(C) FX

USD/JPY: 155.71

USD/JPY held near 155.71 as stronger BOJ rate-hike expectations supported the yen, while softer U.S. rate expectations pressured the dollar.

EUR/USD: 1.1625

EUR/USD stayed near 1.1625 as reduced expectations for a September Fed hike weakened the dollar ahead of U.S. jobs data.

AUD/USD: 0.7206 (+0.10%)

AUD/USD rose 0.10% to 0.7206 on broad U.S. dollar weakness and improved risk sentiment.

NZD/USD: 0.5892 (+0.20%)

NZD/USD gained 0.20% to 0.5892, supported by New Zealand’s recent rate hike and a softer U.S. dollar.
