Global Markets

(A) Precious Metals

Gold: $4,548.30/oz (+0.64%)

Gold rose 0.64% to $4,548.30/oz as a weaker U.S. dollar supported demand. Concerns over U.S. debt and bond-market volatility also supported gold, while elevated Treasury yields limited gains.

Silver: $69.08/oz (+1.47%)

Silver gained 1.47% to $69.08/oz, supported by dollar weakness and broader precious-metal strength. Fiscal concerns and uncertainty in global bond markets added support, although high yields remained a restraint.

(B) Energy

Brent Crude: $89.03/bbl (-0.26%)

Brent crude fell 0.26% to $89.03/bbl on profit-taking after recent gains. Middle East supply risks and reduced shipping through the Strait of Hormuz limited losses, alongside warnings of tougher sanctions on Iran.

(C) FX

USD/JPY: 159.01 (+0.29%)

USD/JPY rose 0.29% to 159.01 as the yen stayed weak despite firmer Japanese inflation. Rate-hike expectations offered some support, but the yen remained under pressure.

EUR/USD: 1.1693 (+0.16%)

EUR/USD gained 0.16% to 1.1693 as the dollar weakened. Concerns over U.S. debt and uncertainty around Treasury bond-market support helped the euro.

AUD/USD: 0.7145 (+0.93%)

AUD/USD rose 0.93% to 0.7145, supported by broad U.S. dollar weakness. Improved demand for non-dollar currencies helped the Aussie recover despite softer domestic labour data.
