Global Markets

(A) Precious Metals

Gold: $4,082.33/oz (-0.52%)

Gold fell 0.52% to $4,082.33 per ounce, pressured by profit-taking, a firmer U.S. dollar and uncertainty over future U.S. interest rates. Tim Waterer said the dollar’s recovery created a mild negative bias, although buying near $4,000 limited losses.

Silver: $58.48/oz (-0.88%)

Silver declined 0.88% to $58.48 per ounce due to a stronger dollar, profit-taking and concerns about industrial demand. Weak manufacturing activity in China also weighed on sentiment.

(B) Energy

Brent Crude: $80.12/bbl (-1.97%)

Brent crude fell 1.97% to $80.12 per barrel as higher tanker flows through Middle Eastern shipping routes eased immediate supply concerns. Daniel Hynes said increased flows through the Strait of Hormuz were offsetting geopolitical tensions.

(C) FX

USD/JPY: 160.760 (+0.81%)

USD/JPY rose 0.81% to 160.760 after the Bank of Japan kept its policy rate unchanged at 1%, causing the yen to surrender part of its intervention-led gains. Nick Twidale said markets could push USD/JPY higher again as traders test Japan’s willingness to support the yen.

EUR/USD: 1.1517 (-0.08%)

EUR/USD slipped 0.08% to 1.1517 as the dollar recovered modestly following its previous-session decline. However, uncertainty over future U.S. interest rates kept the euro close to its recent six-week high.

AUD/USD: 0.7030 (-0.10%)

AUD/USD declined approximately 0.10% to 0.7030, pressured by a moderate recovery in the U.S. dollar and cautious sentiment ahead of major economic data.
