Global Markets

(A) Precious Metals

Gold: $4,032.76/oz (-0.82%)

Gold fell 0.82% to $4,032.76 per ounce as higher U.S. Treasury yields reduced demand for non-yielding bullion after the Federal Reserve kept rates unchanged. Analyst Soni Kumari said inflation concerns were pushing yields higher and pressuring gold.

Silver: $57.14/oz (-0.92%)

Silver declined 0.92% to $57.14 per ounce, pressured by higher yields, uncertainty over U.S. interest rates and concerns about industrial demand. Safe-haven support from geopolitical tensions was not enough to prevent the decline.

(B) Energy

Brent Crude: $83.20/bbl (-0.29%)

Brent crude slipped 0.29% to $83.20 per barrel as oil continued flowing through alternative Middle Eastern shipping routes, easing immediate supply fears. Analysts also pointed to profit-taking after the previous session’s rally.

(C) FX

Dollar Index: 100.93 (+0.10%)

The Dollar Index rose 0.10% to 100.93 after the Federal Reserve held rates steady and renewed U.S.-Iran tensions increased demand for the dollar. Analyst Fabien Yip said uncertainty over the Fed’s commitment to further tightening was beginning to unsettle investors.

EUR/USD: 1.1453 (-0.10%)

EUR/USD fell 0.10% to 1.1453 as the dollar recovered following the Fed decision. Higher U.S. Treasury yields and expectations of possible future rate increases added pressure to the euro.

GBP/USD: 1.3347 (-0.20%)

GBP/USD declined 0.20% to 1.3347 ahead of the Bank of England’s policy decision. Expectations that rates would remain unchanged and caution over the central bank’s guidance weighed on sterling.
