Market sentiment remained cautious and selective, with investors avoiding aggressive positions ahead of key policy signals and major corporate earnings. Risk appetite was supported by easing volatility, but uncertainty around interest rates, inflation, geopolitical developments and global growth kept overall momentum restrained.

Global Markets
(A) Precious Metals
Gold: $4,038.73/oz (+0.25%)
Gold rose 0.25% to $4,038.73 per ounce as the U.S. dollar eased ahead of the Federal Reserve’s policy decision, making bullion more affordable for overseas buyers. Renewed Middle East tensions also supported safe-haven demand, although expectations of restrictive interest-rate guidance limited the increase. Market analyst Kelvin Wong said a less hawkish policy message could help reverse gold’s recent weakness.
Silver: $57.93/oz (+1.41%)
Silver gained 1.41% to $57.93 per ounce, supported by the weaker dollar, improved precious-metals demand and a recovery from the previous session’s decline. However, uncertainty surrounding the Federal Reserve and concerns over industrial and technology-sector demand kept the advance controlled.
(B) Energy
Brent Crude: $80.25/bbl (+1.90%)
Brent crude climbed 1.90% to $80.25 per barrel as renewed U.S. - Iran tensions increased concerns over Middle Eastern supply disruptions. Prices were also supported by an estimated 3.3-million-barrel decline in U.S. crude inventories and continued low tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Analysts said the latest escalation reduced expectations of a rapid regional de-escalation.
(C) FX
Dollar Index: 101.27 (-0.15%)
The dollar eased 0.15% to 101.27 as investors avoided major positions ahead of the Federal Reserve decision. Markets assigned roughly a 30% chance of a 25-basis-point increase. Strategist Sim Moh Siong said the Fed’s guidance would be more important than the decision itself.
EUR/USD: 1.1401 (+0.14%)
EUR/USD rose 0.14% to 1.1401, supported by mild dollar weakness. Gains remained limited by expectations that U.S. interest rates could stay restrictive.
GBP/USD: 1.3298 (+0.06%)
GBP/USD gained 0.06% to 1.3298 as the dollar softened slightly, although sterling remained near its weakest level since early July.
USD/JPY: 163.38 (-0.30%)
USD/JPY fell 0.30% to 163.38 as the yen recovered modestly. Hirofumi Suzuki said a move toward 164 could increase the risk of intervention by Japanese authorities.
AUD/USD: 0.6954 (-0.28%)
AUD/USD declined 0.28% to 0.6954 after Australian annual inflation slowed to 3.8%, below the 4.0% forecast, reducing expectations of further rate increases.
