About Coffee

Coffee (Arabica) is quoted in US cents per pound on ICE Futures US and serves as the global benchmark for the premium coffee variety consumed most widely in developed markets.

Brazil is the world's largest Arabica producer, and its biennial crop cycle, combined with weather events such as frost or drought in the key growing states, means the market can experience sharp and sustained price moves.

Vietnam is the leading producer of Robusta coffee, and supply conditions there also influence broader market sentiment, while persistent growth in global consumption from emerging markets underpins long-run demand.

What Moves Coffee

  • Brazilian Weather & Crop Cycle

Brazil's biennial production pattern and susceptibility to frost in Minas Gerais and drought in key growing regions are the most immediate and impactful drivers of Arabica price volatility.

  • Vietnamese Production

Vietnam dominates the Robusta supply used in blends and instant coffee; any significant shortfall or surplus there influences the overall balance of global coffee supply.

  • Currency Movements (BRL & VND)

When the Brazilian real or Vietnamese dong weakens against the US dollar, local producers receive more in domestic currency for each pound sold, which can incentivise selling and weigh on dollar-denominated prices.

  • Global Consumption Growth

Rising middle-class coffee culture in Asia, Latin America, and Africa is gradually lifting the structural demand baseline, providing underlying support to prices over the medium and long term.

  • Export & Logistics Disruptions

Port congestion, container shortages, or trade route issues can delay shipments and create short-term supply tightness, contributing to price spikes independent of crop fundamentals.

CoffeeQuestions

How much is Coffee live price today?

The live price is shown in the chart above and updates throughout the trading session. Coffee is one of the more volatile soft commodities and can move sharply on weather forecasts from Brazil, so always check the live chart and current bid/ask before opening a trade.

Can I trade coffee with leverage?

Yes. With Centrino Capital, eligible clients can trade coffee as a commodity CFD with flexible leverage and transparent margin requirements. Given coffee's tendency for sharp moves, particularly around frost season in Brazil, leverage can magnify losses as well as gains, so a thorough understanding of CFD risk is essential.

Why is Brazilian frost such a significant risk for coffee prices?

A large proportion of the world's Arabica coffee is grown in the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil, where frost events, though relatively rare, can damage or destroy coffee trees rather than just the current season's crop. Because trees take several years to mature and return to full production, a significant frost can reduce supply for multiple seasons, leading to prolonged price increases.

What is the difference between Arabica and Robusta coffee in terms of trading?

Arabica (KC) is the ICE Futures US benchmark and the variety most associated with premium cafe coffee; it is more expensive and more sensitive to Brazilian weather. Robusta is a hardier variety grown mainly in Vietnam and traded on ICE Futures Europe. The two prices are related but distinct, and traders often watch the spread between them as a barometer of overall supply conditions.

Do I receive physical coffee when I trade COFFEE?

No. Trading coffee via a CFD means you are taking a financial position on the price without any obligation to take delivery of actual coffee beans. You can go long if you expect prices to rise or short if you expect them to fall.
