Global Markets

(A) Precious Metals

Gold: $4,282.25/oz (-0.12%)

Gold slipped 0.12% to $4,282.25/oz as higher Treasury yields, a stronger dollar and expectations for further Fed tightening reduced demand for non-yielding bullion. Strong U.S. activity also reinforced inflation and rate-hike concerns.

Silver: $64.01/oz (-0.67%)

Silver fell 0.67% to $64.01/oz as rising U.S. yields and dollar strength pressured precious metals. Expectations that interest rates could remain elevated continued to weigh on silver.

(B) Energy

Brent Crude: $103.23/bbl (+0.15%)

Brent edged 0.15% higher to $103.23/bbl as Middle East supply risks and uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz supported prices. Gains were limited by Iran’s openness to diplomacy and a 3.0 million-barrel rise in U.S. crude inventories.

(C) FX

DXY: 101.08 (-0.02%)

The dollar index eased 0.02% to 101.08 but stayed near a two-month high, supported by strong U.S. activity, rising Treasury yields and expectations for further Fed tightening.

USD/JPY: 158.03 (-0.15%)

USD/JPY fell 0.15% to 158.03 as the yen recovered slightly. However, high U.S. yields and a wide U.S.-Japan rate gap continued to limit yen strength.

EUR/USD: 1.1373 (-0.08%)

EUR/USD slipped 0.08% to 1.1373 as higher U.S. yields and stronger Fed rate-hike expectations supported the dollar.

GBP/USD: 1.3240 (+0.02%)

GBP/USD edged 0.02% higher to 1.3240, but persistent dollar strength and elevated U.S. yields kept sterling under pressure.

AUD/USD: 0.7023 (-0.14%)

AUD/USD fell 0.14% to 0.7023 after Australia’s unemployment rate rose to 4.6% from 4.5%, despite employment increasing by 39.5K.

NZD/USD: 0.5674 (-0.02%)

NZD/USD slipped 0.02% to 0.5674 as broad U.S. dollar strength and higher Treasury yields weighed on the New Zealand dollar.
